Before selecting and buying a fireplace stove, it is important to choose the right heating unit in terms of required heat output.

A properly insulated house requires a heat output of 50-70 watts per 1 m². To heat an area of 100 m2 (with a ceiling height of 2.5 - 2.7 m), you will need a heat source with a nominal output of approximately 4 – 7 kW. 

To make the most of your new fireplace stove or insert, you need to choose the right size, shape, location and technical parameters. Create a simple drawing of the room and mark down the chimney, windows and doors. The sales assistant will then help you choose the optimum model and its location in the interior.

In order for your fireplace stove or insert to burn properly, sufficient air intake is required. The larger the furnace and the better the room insulation, the more external air intake you will need – from the outside, from the corridor, or perhaps from the cellar. Combustion is then completely independent of the air in the room where the heating unit is located. External air can also be supplied from the floor (bottom inlet) or from the back (rear inlet). All fireplace stoves and inserts are fitted with external air intake! When choosing a heating unit and its subsequent installation, you also need to let the sales assistant know if you have a fume hood or air conditioning unit in the same room, as this can create under-pressure in the room when all appliances are in operation, and this can negatively affect the operation of the fireplace stove or insert.

The chimney is the key element for the proper operation of a fireplace stove or insert. The chimney is like the engine, so it is necessary to ensure the correct draft. From the beginning of the project, you must have a clear idea of the technical parameters of the fireplace stove or insert. This will allow the chimney sweep to design the optimum solution for your chimney and save you further costs in the future. If you already have a chimney, we recommend arranging an inspection by a chimney sweep to determine if it has the right dimensions, if the diameter and draft are sufficient, etc.

The fireplace stove or insert must be installed on a floor with a corresponding load-bearing capacity. If the current situation does not meet this requirement, appropriate measures (such as the use of a mat to distribute the weight) must be taken to meet this requirement.

A non-flammable mat, e.g. made of sheet metal, glass, tiles or other decorative material, must be placed on a hard, flat floor of flammable material. If the floor is uneven or not strong enough, your fireplace stove or insert may be unstable as a result.

Assembly and installation of the fireplace stove or insert must be performed by an authorized RHÉA-FLAM dealer.
